This big paleo era Haskett point is made from a piece of dark red and black obsidian although it doesn't show well in the pics. Its completely percussion flaked with a bit of pressure clean up here and there. Tricky to do but the old ones I've seen I think were mostly done that was or possibly with indirect percussion. Most are shorter than this one but originals have been found in this size range. Its thought that they continued to resharpen them as the tips got banged up in use Haskett points are thought to be almost older than Clovis. Its a very old point type that dates way back. I don't do a lot of them. |
