This is an antler handled adz. The blade is made from unheated Reed Springs Chert. The blade is 2 1/4 inches long and 1 3/4 inches wide. The antler handle is 5 inches long. The blade is secured to the handle with raw hide lace and hide glue. Like all of my items, I made this adz to use. If you are the purchaser of this fine authentic reproduction adz, you will see a bit of brown residue on the cutting edge. This is dogwood residue from where I used this tool to rough shape a celt handle. So be assured that this is a working tool. It will make a fine addition to any Native American tool collection. |
