Here is one of those items that I am listing but I really don't care if it sells. If it doesn't sell in a month or so I will place it in my keeper box. This is a knapped Dacite blade hafted to a piece of petrified deer leg bone. I found this petrified bone about 18 inches below the surface, while digging around in an overhang above my creek. Most likely the piece of deer bone was tossed there by one of the many indigenous peoples who lived in the valley hundreds of years ago.
This base tang blade is hafted to the bone handle in a traditional manner using a pine resin adhesive that I made, and then wrapping the hafting area with hand twisted natural fiber cordage. If this knife is to be used as a hunting knife I recommend that it be used only on small game. I know the blade and hafting are strong enough to do the work, but considering the age of the petrified bone and how brittle it was when I was shaping it, I am not sure how long it would hold up under heavy use. That is why I strongly suggest that it be only used as a display. |
