Here is a Big Tube Pipe also called a Cloud Blower. I carved this pipe from a nice, dark green piece of steatite. The entire surface exhibits mottling that can be seen in the photos. It is Double Ringed as were many tubular pipes. During the pipe making period, tube pipe forms endured as favorites to carve and use an estimated 3,000 years. The design made them very practical. There was even a good chance if major damage didn’t occur, that the pipe could be re-worked a bit and be salvaged. The same couldn’t be said of some other types of pipes.
I completed this Tube Pipe with a smooth, glossy finish, as this stone had the inherent attributes that allow this fine polish. It has been waxed to bring out the rich deep color within.
