This is an authentic reproduction full groove axe head made from Basalt. What is meant by the words, "authentic reproduction?" It means that this Item was crafted exactly like all authentic artifacts of this type. There was no power tools or commercial grinders used to make this axe. This axe was made with traditional stone age tools and techniques.
These traditional techniques are called the peck and grind method, and require a great amount of time. I could use power tools to cut and shape my axe heads, but then they would not be authentic reproductions. They would be just reproductions. It is a labor of love that I do to peck out and grind smooth each one by hand. My heart and soul are poured into every axe I make, just like our ancestors did thousands of years ago, and this axe is no exception |
