I have not heard of any other knapper working with this unique material. The ones that I have flintknapped may be the FIRST ever created from Mount Saint Helens Glass!
The glass is formed (man-made) by using Mount Saint Helens ash in the glass. The green cast of this one is due to iron in the glass. It is typically cut into faceted stones, and is very rare to find in the rough (even harder to find in larger flat sizes).
I have a photo posted here of the original piece that I started with, next to a penny for reference. A piece of the raw glass of this size costs about $22.00 (so I'm extremely glad that it did not break on me!!!). This makes this piece a fantastic deal. I may not have the opportunity to purchase this material again.
