The Estolica was the atlatl style favored by cultures from Baja California to the coasts of Peru and Chile. The simple yet highly versatile 'fineal' handle design allows for multiple grips including hammer, paddle, and split-finger as well as multiple variations thereof. Although many examples, including some found in 'Moche' culture tombs, are quite sophisticated and elaborite with hammered copper spurs and gold gilding, mine is a more 'primitive' version featuring a deer antler fineal and spur secured with rawhide and sinew, respectively, to a steam straightened and stabilized bark-on willow mainshaft. At 28'' it is an ideal long distance thrower and a total steal at just $45. |
